Bad habits & blue eyeliner // SUMMER EYE LOOK
Let me start off by saying this is not the first, nor will it be the last time that the blog goes without some lovin' for a little too long. Sadly, sometimes life just gets in the way of your big blog plans. Once upon a time, this kind of long-term absence would have derailed me so much, that I might consider just never posting again. But there's a new me in town, and she's not afraid to come back swinging from bad habits.
I won't make excuses, but I will simply state for the record (and I am sure everyone already knows), that we got a dog! Not just any dog, but the second love of my life (in furry form). Birdie joined our family on May 21st, and it's been a whirlwind ever since. I know I could get fairly long-winded speaking to her life-changing presence, but I won't inundate you with puppy love on a makeup blog. Just know that I've been spending time with her, and therefore, Face Foreword paid the price.
But here I am, wearing makeup again (sometimes), and trying out trendy things like, blue! Blue is a color that has never quite gone away, but is currently having a renaissance moment in cosmetics, thanks in large part to Pat McGrath. There's blue mascara, blue lipstick, blue eyeshadow, but most importantly, blue eyeliner. One small flick of a bright cobalt or soft periwinkle on your lids can literally turn heads. Here is a quick look at my everyday summer makeup routine, only now with a pop of blue!
//
Base // I've been letting my skin breathe as much as possible and therefore keeping it pretty light in the foundation category. I used my RMS Un Cover-Up in shade 22 in small spots all over my face, and then blended out with the L.A.B2 Oval face brush. This brush has nice densely packed soft bristles which help even everything out. Then I've been using a little of the Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach under my eyes and on any darker spots. Here's the point at which you could use a translucent powder overtop if your prefer, but in summer I tend to just embrace the sweaty dew. I also used the new Glossier Balm Dot Com in Birthday (their amazing collab with Momofuku Milk Bar) on my lips to hydrate.
Brows // This step remains my hardcore power couple. I filled in everything with the Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow in Espresso, and then went on top of that with my Glossier Boy Brow in Black.
Eyes (the fun part!) // I wanted the liner to be the star of the show, so I used a very subtle eyeshadow base with the RMS Eye Polish in Myth (a minky taupe color). For liner I ended up using a non-green product... so don't kill me. On my lid I used the L'Oreal Infallible Eye Paint Pen in Electric Blue with that created a small cat eye. This pen is extremely easy to use, and definitely gave a beautifully pigmented line of color. On my water line I used the L'Oreal Eye Paint Pen in White Party. I also drew some white in the corners of my eyes to help brighten the overall look. I promise to keep looking for a good green beauty dupe for these liquid liner pens! I topped everything off with the Honest Beauty Truly Lush Mascara + Lash Primer.
Cheeks & Lips // Since the goal was for the eyes to pop the most, I kept the rest of my face pretty peachy, neutral. I used some of the RMS Lip2Cheek in the shade Curious, a brighter orange shade (thoroughly blended out). On my lips I used the Blotted Lip from ColourPop (a cruelty-free but not green beauty brand), in the shade Sucker. Somehow this soft coral shade has become my daily go-to lip. Probably because the formula is so easy to apply and wear, and the shade is super flattering. I'd compare the formula to the Glossier Generation G lipsticks, and Colourpop is cheaper!
Literally, this has got to be the easiest way to incorporate something blue into your everyday routine. Let me know if you try it. You really should.
